ABOUT IOI FOUNDATION

Founded in 2021, IOIF is a young but bold institution built on the conviction that it is urgent to strengthen the resilience of island territories.

We focus on developing the capacity of island populations to perpetuate the Common Good, preserve natural and cultural resources, and ensure the long-term sustainability of their way of life.

From restoring ecosystems to safeguarding heritage, everything we do is guided by a deep respect for both people and planet.

MISSION

The mission of the foundation will be to promote any innovative initiative involving the fields of arts and sciences, and adopting a collaborative approach that integrates ecological, cultural, societal and economic aspects for the sustainability of island societies.

OUR PURPOSE

To promote and accelerate the emergence of sustainable social-ecological systems in the Indian Ocean.

The foundation is meant for the study, conservation and enhancement of natural and cultural resources specific to island life, in order to contribute to the defense and construction of the common good, to the renewal of species and to the integration of human communities within their ecosystems, for the sustainability of future generations.

Protecting natural ecosystems and strengthening ecological resilience across the Indian Ocean.

IOIF supports research and projects that regenerate marine, coastal, and forest ecosystems, from mangrove restoration to biodiversity preservation. We integrate traditional ecological knowledge with cutting-edge science to ensure that conservation is not only effective, but culturally rooted and locally led. Our approach treats environmental protection as a foundation for social stability and economic sustainability.

(SERA) Framework

We partnered with ER Group to design a custom MEAL/SERA framework aligned with their FBBOI-funded Regenesis project

Filoumoris
Heritage Revival

Now hosted and managed by IOIF, we helped revive traditional songs and dances, forming a youth cultural troupe that now performs across Mauritius.

Coastal Management
Plan – Black River

In collaboration with the IOC, we helped craft an integrated coastal zone management plan for the District of Black River.
